Practical Nurse

The Helsinki city social, health and rescue department invites applicants for an apprenticeship training path to become a practical nurse. The training is conducted in collaboration with Stadin AO. The group targets include graduates of care assistant training (60 competence points) or practical nurse students who have completed at least 55 competence points. The apprenticeship begins on 16 November 2026 and lasts about 1–1.5 years depending on prior studies, during which the student completes the social and health care sector practical nurse qualification. Placements are in senior centers, home care, hospitals, disability services, addiction services and substitute service staff. Selection preferences are based on applicant wishes for placement. Applications are through the Helbit recruitment system. Non-Finnish native speakers will undergo a language assessment on 21 September, after which they will be invited by email about a week prior. Successful applicants attend aptitude tests on 6–7 October 2026, including a group interview, group tasks and math test. Invitations to aptitude tests are sent in week 37. Requirements include: a care assistant diploma (60 osp) or completion of at least 55 competence points in practical nurse studies by the aptitude test dates; 18 years of age; Finnish language proficiency at least level B2.1; suitability and strong interest in care work; good physical and mental readiness to work as a practical nurse; ability to work three shifts (evenings, nights, weekends) and two shifts in home care; good IT skills and readiness for independent study. A vaccination as required by infectious diseases law and tuberculosis screening are mandatory. Prior to appointment, the applicant may be referred to occupational health assessment. A drug test may be required before employment. A criminal record extract is required before assuming duties. Employment is covered by the SOTE collective agreement.
