Job Description Summary: As a Substation Design Engineer, your main responsibility is to design and layout high-voltage (HV) substations while ensuring reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and regulations. Cross-functional collaboration with other engineers and support for project documentation and continuous improvement initiatives are also key aspects of this role. Job Description: Essential Responsibilities: - Execute all technical aspects of AC power substation projects under the guidance of a Lead Engineer. - Work on high voltage substation general arrangement and layouts, plan and elevation drawings, bills of material, arrangements for high voltage bus, cable, high voltage equipment, conduit, cable, and wiring, grounding, and control buildings. Perform related engineering calculations. - Coordinate overall design with other design disciplines providing basic single line drawings and schematics, relay protection and control requirements - Write high voltage equipment specifications and issuance of material purchase request forms, and vendor quotation evaluation for substation equipment including high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnects, high voltage power transformers, high voltage cable, and protection and control systems. - Participate on a team of engineers and designers, coordinate with sourcing and the project team on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control, and schedule objectives - Interface with internal and external team members such as Principal Engineers, Protection and Control Engineers, Electrical Designers, Physical Designers, Draftsmen, Project Managers, and support organizations - Work on developing proposals including writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, estimating materials, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, directing designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements, and the development of clarifications and exceptions as well as technical responses. Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college (BSEE preferred) - At least 1 year of experience in Transmission & Distribution substation engineering. Eligibility Requirements: - Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including international travel Desired Characteristics: - Professional Engineer or willing to take necessary exams to register and become a licensed PE. - Knowledge of and experience using IEEE and ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and NESC - Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary & secondary equipment such as battery sizing & DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator, and arrector selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection. - Understanding of civil engineering and substation related structural design requirements. - Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits. Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability. - Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously. - Excellent personal computer skills, including programming and design automation, and familiarity with AutoCAD, BIM and Revit strongly desired. - Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability - Effective communication and interpersonal skills
