Vacancy for Fire Chief at Soite (Keski-Pohjanmaan hyvinvointialue) to be filled by 04 October 2026 22:00. Soite consists of eight municipalities with a combined population of about 68,000. Keski-Pohjanmaan Central Hospital is the nearest on-call hospital for about 200,000 inhabitants. The welfare area employs around 4,000 people. The Fire Department leadership center directs firefighting operations in major incidents and forms situational awareness across the region. There are 13 fire stations, with Kokkolan fire station staffed around the clock; other stations are in Eskola, Halsua, Kokkolan Ventus, Kannus, Kaustisella, Kälviä, Lestijärvi, Lohtaja, Perho, Toholampi, Ullava, and Veteli. Customer service is offered only at Kokkolan fire station as agreed. To enable service delivery in all situations, skilled support services in technology, administration, and competence management are provided. In addition to firefighters and fire inspectors, there are experts from many fields ensuring statutory services and quality and safety. TASKS include fire prevention duties (fire inspections, review of internal/external rescue plans, commenting on various plans from a rescue perspective) and planning/reskeeping firefighting performance, including extinguishing water supply plans. There is also potential to participate in operational leadership of firefighting on-call as a deputy to the on-call chief in sudden absences. The work division between firefighting and preparedness/accident prevention is roughly 50/50. Work time is 38.25 hours per week. REQUIREMENTS include: state decree on firefighting (Act 407/2011) 6 §, main officer qualification, valid B-class driving license, valid passport or ID, good Finnish language skills (spoken and written), health status for firefighting duties within two months of appointment, and successful basic personal security clearance before starting. PREFERRED include prior experience with emergency dispatch tasks, Swedish and English skills, relevant studies and work experience, and good composure under pressure. ADDITIONAL: permanent appointment start by 1 Nov 2026 or as agreed no later than 3 months after, six-month probation, full-time, 38.25 h/week, partial remote work possible.
