About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer to build and scale Generative AI applications. The role is permanent based in Stockholm or Helsinki. We work in a hybrid model. And we are expected to work three days per week in the office on average by our rules. This is an English-speaking working environment. About our team: Meet the AI & Machine Learning team. Our role is to improve how we detect and investigate financial crime with the help of AI and machine learning, to keep our customers, Nordea, and society safe. Our team is about 25 people working out of Stockholm, Helsinki and Copenhagen as a part of the group financial crime prevention (GFCP) unit that provides financial crime prevention services to all of the bank. We released Nordea’s first internal generative AI product and are now developing more use cases. Collaboration. Ownership. Passion. Courage. Main responsibilities in this role: Lead the discovery and scoping of new AI use cases in collaboration with business stakeholders Architect, implement, and own production-grade Gen AI applications Influence cross-functional decisions on AI strategy, technology choices, and implementation Establish evaluation strategies and quality standards for AI applications Drive technical direction by evaluating new AI developments and defining best practices, tooling, and architecture standards Own compliance documentation to ensure responsible use of AI Mentor and upskill teammates through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance Who you are This is the right role for you if you have a passion to solve challenging problems - with the help of data, software and AI. As a person, you look past the noise, to do what is right. You prefer action to talking, but when you talk, people want to listen. Your background and skills include: MSc or PhD in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or related fields. Equivalent practical experience is also valued. 5+ years experience delivering production ML/AI systems in python, with a focus on rapid development and iteration 2+ years experience delivering multiple Gen AI projects, using LLM APIs, RAG, agentic frameworks, or emerging patterns (MCP, A2A, etc.) Proven ability to design evaluation strategies and establish quality standards for AI applications Strong understanding of LLMOps, including observability for agentic systems, cost monitoring, and production debugging of agents Expert-level ML & AI systems design skills, including scalability, reliability, and cost optimization A proven track-record of turning ideas into prototypes, prototypes into production applications, and iteratively improving upon their quality and reliability A knack for tackling complex problems and creating simple solutions Strong technical leadership and ability to influence without authority across engineering, product, and business teams What we offer People come here when they want to get somewhere.
