Doctoral Researcher

We are seeking a Doctoral Researcher in probabilistic machine learning to work on biology-informed machine learning for dynamical systems. The position is based at the Department of Computer Science at Aalto University, Finland, within a research environment spanning the Computational Systems Biology group, FCAI, and ELLIS Institute Finland. The successful candidate will develop BioGPs—Bayesian dynamical models combining mechanistic components with flexible Gaussian process terms. The work includes uncertainty quantification, learning interpretable mechanistic ODEs, and potential connections to foundation-model approaches for dynamical systems. The project involves collaboration with Dr Julien Martinelli and Associate Professor Harri Lähdesmäki. The appointment is two-year fixed term with an option for renewal. The starting salary is 3168.20 EUR per month plus occupational health benefits. The position is located at the Otaniemi campus in Espoo. Applications close on 21 October 2026.
