Finnair is a diverse community of professionals who work ambitiously with a big heart and commitment. A strong safety culture is our priority and at the core of our everyday work, never taking it for granted. We are committed to doing our share in solving the climate challenge by determinedly following our science-based pathway to decarbonize our operations. Our values – Always Safe, Customer at Heart, Stronger Together – guide us in everything we do. Our Digital Engineering team builds and runs Finnair’s digital customer experience, one of Finland’s largest e-commerce platforms. We’re investing in how we build it: strengthening our product and software development practices and building toward more modern, AI-assisted engineering. Revenue and retail are at the heart of Finnair’s commercial model, and the engineering teams building these systems have a direct line to the business outcomes we care most about. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering teams across our Revenue & Retail domain, spanning the Sales & Retail and Personalisation & Data tribes. The role sits within Finnair’s Digital Engineering team and is based at Finnair HQ near Helsinki Airport. The Revenue & Retail domain builds and runs the commercial engine of Finnair’s digital experience, from flight and ancillary sales flows and personalisation services to revenue optimisation and post-sales capabilities. Across three tribes, these systems are high-traffic, business-critical, and directly tied to Finnair’s commercial performance. As Engineering Manager, you lead the software engineers across the domain’s tribes. This is primarily a people leadership role: your focus is your teams growth, wellbeing, delivery effectiveness, and developer experience. You won’t own technical architecture day to day; that sits with the tribes Lead Software Engineers. But you’ll stay close enough to the technical work to make informed decisions, support your engineers credibly, and engage meaningfully on technical direction. You’ll partner closely with the tribes Lead Software Engineers on technical direction, with Product and Design Leads on delivery priorities, and with Delivery Managers on execution. You report to the Head of Retail Engineering. In this role, you’ll lead, coach, and develop software engineers across the domain, recruit and onboard engineering talent, ensure teams work in line with Finnair’s engineering standards and practices, keep delivery running smoothly across the domain, drive continuous improvement, strengthen developer experience and help teams adopt evolving tools, promote psychological safety, represent your teams to stakeholders, and act as the escalation point for people and delivery issues. What success could look like in the first months and year is described, as well as ongoing expectations. To succeed you should bring 5–8+ years in software development with 2+ years in people leadership, hands-on depth, agile/product-led experience, strong coaching, and excellent English. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is expected or equivalent experience. Nice to have experience in e-commerce, retail or regulated domains, and management of multiple squads. Finnair offers a hybrid model with on-site presence at HQ near Helsinki Airport, a salary expectations process, and a recruitment process including multiple interviews and pre-employment checks. We also provide a safety-focused, diverse workplace and benefits such as travel, wellness, and other platforms. Interested candidates should apply with CV, cover letter, and salary expectation by the stated deadline.
