Process Designer

AFRY’s energy business uses process design as a central part of planning energy facilities. The process largely determines how a facility operates and forms the basis for other design work. As a Process Designer, you will help ensure that the process works as planned and is technically correctly sized. You will work as part of a project team of around ten people alongside experts from other design disciplines. The role also involves collaboration with clients and equipment suppliers. Projects are long-term and may last for years, so you can follow the progress of design and the different stages of a project over an extended period. As you gain experience, your responsibilities will grow, and you can take increasingly independent responsibility for your own design discipline. Your tasks - Mass and energy balance and sizing calculations. - Preparing process flow diagrams (PFDs) and designing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). - Specifying and sizing equipment, including process equipment, materials and utilities. - Preparing technical procurement specifications. - Safety and risk-management analyses as part of process design. - Working with equipment suppliers and reviewing technical solutions. - Coordinating the tasks of your own design discipline as part of the project team. We are looking for You have a suitable technical higher-education degree, for example in process, energy or chemical engineering. You may be an experienced process designer or a recent graduate at the beginning of your career. What matters is that you are familiar with the fundamentals of process sizing and design. We expect you to have: - An understanding of process sizing and the fundamentals of process design. For example, you have carried out process balance calculations or sizing during your studies. - The ability to understand what happens in a process and how mass and energy flows behave. - An analytical and systematic approach to work. - An independent working style and the ability to move your tasks forward. - A desire to learn and gradually take on more responsibility. - Good collaboration skills. Although the work includes a lot of independent design, projects involve close collaboration with other design disciplines, clients and suppliers. - Fluent Finnish and English. If a client project requires it, a security clearance may be carried out during employment. An approved security clearance is a condition for the continuation of the employment relationship.
