We are seeking a development-minded and cooperative conservator whose main task is to be responsible for the light conservation of archaeological artefacts related to Turku tram archaeology, along with coordinating conservation-related activities. The position sits within a vast urban archaeological project where proper handling, documentation and preservation of artefacts are central to the project's success. You will work on artefacts related to Turku’s historically significant layers, with a tram line running through Finland’s most important archaeological site. In this role you will be part of the Turku tram alliance's multidisciplinary team, with opportunities to develop new practices and contribute to Finland’s largest archaeological project. Key responsibilities include: - light conservation, handling and stabilising artefacts according to Turku City Museum guidelines and developing methods - assessment of artefact condition, documentation and evaluating follow-up actions with archaeologists - communicating with conservation laboratories, authorities and other expert bodies on conservation and preservation questions - ensuring effective information flow related to conservation between alliance project management, archaeologists and other project participants - developing procedures as part of a large, multidisciplinary and time-critical project, considering project costs and other targets. We expect: - relevant conservation training or other suitable expertise - basic understanding of conservation and interest in preserving archaeological artefacts - accuracy, persistence and ability to work systematically in a changing project environment - excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills and willingness to work with multiple stakeholders - curiosity, openness and desire to learn - proactive work approach and ability to surface observations that help improve project practices - willingness to work on-site in Turku - ability to operate in Swedish. We view favourably: - experience in archaeological excavation or handling archaeological artefacts - understanding of city archaeology specifics - interest in medieval artefacts and historical finds - experience with documentation, reporting or artefact cataloguing practices - readiness to work closely with authorities, laboratories and project management.
