Early Childhood Special Assistant

This role is a permanent position in Helsinki City early childhood education, supporting children with special needs in a preschool setting. The position is that of an assistant to a child requiring special support, with a qualification as a practical nurse oriented towards children and youth or disability work. The assistant works as part of a team in a local daycare, supporting the child’s daily activities and participation, and collaborates with other daycare staff, guardians, rehabilitation and assessment bodies. The work location may vary per season as needed. We expect independence, responsibility, good collaboration skills and a positive attitude. We offer opportunities for training, coaching and group supervision related to the job. Medication administration skills are required, and willingness to work with children who need medication; training is provided if the license is not currently held. In the upcoming season, tasks are placed in Kaunoki daycare’s preschool segment. The assistant’s job is to support the child in everyday situations. Kaunoki daycare has 102 places, 49 of which are for preschoolers. Our strength is strong pedagogical expertise and a professional, competent staff. To be eligible, you need a practical nurse qualification (children and youth or disability work) and must have medication administration competence; you must also demonstrate good Finnish oral and written proficiency, and present a current criminal background check for work with children. A TB test for tuberculosis of the respiratory system is required for those working with preschool children. Experience in a similar position and related further education are considered advantageous.
