Strategic Planner

The Strategic Planner role is focused on long-term planning for VR’s long-distance rail network, developing data-driven insights to support growth, profitability, capacity utilization, and customer experience. The role involves developing analyses, validating results, and collaborating closely with other planning functions to convert complex data into clear, actionable decisions. You will work with route networks, train offerings, and demand, building analytic tools and ensuring rigorous interpretation of results. The ideal candidate has a university-level background in business or technical sciences and experience in analytical or planning roles, with the ability to combine data, business understanding, and operational context to support strategic decision-making. Experience with data handling, databases, optimization models, and visualization using SQL, Python, Power BI, and Excel is valued; experience in demand forecasting, capacity planning, or business development is a plus, as is AI in analytics. The role requires fluent English; Finnish and Swedish are advantageous for collaboration with Nordic colleagues.
