Special Education Teacher

There is a permanent position open for a special education teacher in early childhood education at Kanerva, where you can develop a child's well-being in everyday life and grow as a special education expert. Kanerva has decades of tradition in high-quality early childhood education as both a daytime and 24-hour service provider. The unit's special education teacher (veo) position is daytime. As the unit's special education teacher (veo), you act as the unit's special pedagogical expert. You support the functioning of groups and children's individual needs with your expertise. You act as the daycare director's partner in planning support and support pedagogical leadership with your special pedagogical skills. The unit's veo primarily works in child groups and supports staff in identifying support needs, as well as in planning, implementing, and evaluating the support provided. Work can be done in many different ways and adapts flexibly to the needs of children and groups. Your workdays include: - co-teaching in a child group - modeling pedagogical forms of support such as the use of visual support - child-specific guidance or supporting play - consulting by participating in team meetings As the unit's veo, you have many important partners. Cooperation with guardians is an important part of your work. Other key partners are the regional roving special education teacher and the Finnish as a second language teacher. Additionally, you cooperate with a multidisciplinary network, including various family services and healthcare professionals. You will become part of the city-wide veo community, which meets regularly in pop-up events. You will also have access to high-quality pedagogical materials and tools collected in the 'Opehuone'. Kanerva's round-the-clock care groups will move to another unit in January 2027, at which point Kanerva will become a day-center. After the change, the unit's veo will work in Kanerva's day groups. Requirements: - Eligibility according to the Early Childhood Education Act (540/2018) or eligibility for a teacher of early childhood education position according to the transitional provision (Section 75), in addition to which you have completed studies providing professional qualifications for special education tasks; or you have a Master of Education degree with a major in special pedagogy (early childhood special education teacher training). - Recognition of foreign education by the Finnish National Agency for Education also fulfills the requirement. - Good oral and written skills in Finnish. - Valid criminal record extract for working with children (504/2002). - Tuberculosis clearance for those working with children under school age (Infectious Diseases Act Section 55). When starting a permanent employment relationship as a special education teacher in early childhood education with the City of Helsinki in 2026, we offer you an incentive bonus of 2000 euros. The bonus is paid only once to the same person.
