About the role

<div><p><strong>Geotechnical rail design combines demanding track projects, technical expertise and tangible impact on construction success.</strong></p><p></p><p>At WSP you can work on significant rail infrastructure projects in Finland as a geotechnical designer, geotechnical lead designer or project manager. We are looking for geotechnical specialists at different career stages, and the emphasis of the role will be tailored based on your experience and interests.</p><p>You will be part of a ~150-person rail expert community in Finland, supported by experienced rail and geotechnical colleagues. You may work on projects such as the Turku Port Rail, DigiRail, Espoo City Rail and Rail Baltica, with opportunities to learn and collaborate also outside Finland.</p><p><strong>What you will do?</strong></p><p>Your work may focus on geotechnical design, geotechnical lead design or project management, with projects ranging from large national rail schemes to smaller, technically challenging packages. The emphasis is on geotechnical design of railways and track structures, but the role can be broadened to other geotechnical disciplines.</p><p><strong>As Geotechnical Designer or Geotechnical Lead Designer</strong></p><ul><li>you can work as a geotechnical designer or lead designer on rail projects</li></ul><ul><li>daily tasks may include geotechnical design of substructures and drainage, soil stabilization and foundation design</li></ul><ul><li>tasks may also include geotechnical calculations, modelling, producing design documents, coordinating design and participating in tendering</li></ul><p><strong>As Project Manager</strong></p><ul><li>you are responsible for geotechnical or multidisciplinary rail projects and lead the projects with collaboration across disciplines and stakeholders</li></ul><p>In rail projects geotechnical design is performed in close collaboration with track, substructure, environment, power supply and safety engineering design. At WSP these specialists work under one roof.</p><p><strong>What kind of team to expect?</strong></p><p>The Rail Geotechnical Design unit employs about 10 multi-site specialists, with ~30 geotechnical designers in WSP’s substructure unit across Finland to support them.</p><p>In everyday work, this means a low threshold to spar and share knowledge. Challenges are solved together across projects, offices and disciplines, and expertise is given space.</p><p>Work is conducted ambitiously but in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Different personalities and ways of working are welcome; collaboration is central and a sense of humor is a plus.
