In the environmental services of Northern Central Finland covering eight municipalities (Saarijärvi, Viitasaari, Pihtipudas, Karstula, Kannonkoski, Kyyjärvi, Kinnula, and Kivijärvi), two relief veterinarians and an acting chief veterinarian are sought for at least approximately four months of temporary positions. The unit has a total of 2 veterinarian positions, one of which includes the responsibilities of an acting chief veterinarian (managerial duties, 50%), and one fixed-term veterinarian position. There are two relief veterinarian positions and a 0.5 full-time equivalent (FTE) acting chief veterinarian role available. The duration of the relief positions is at least until the end of October 2026. Part-time relief positions are also possible, and managerial duties can be combined with a part-time relief veterinarian position depending on the situation. The relief veterinarian's office is located in Viitasaari, with extensive remote work rights. Relief veterinarians have access to a service vehicle. Collaboration agreements are in place with other units of Central Finland's environmental health services for tasks related to animal welfare and infectious disease control, providing collegial support from other units. The duties of the relief veterinarian include tasks related to animal welfare and infectious disease control laws, by-product control, animal identification and registration oversight, control of foreign substances and medication records, and food safety inspection tasks in processing plants and primary production. Work division can be based on individual expertise. Animal welfare inspections are conducted in pairs, requiring close teamwork. The 0.5 FTE acting chief veterinarian role includes tasks related to frontline supervisors of practical veterinarians, preparing on-call schedules, and other administrative duties. Higher pay is provided for the acting duties. This role can be combined with a relief veterinarian or part-time practical veterinarian position. Eligibility for relief veterinarian positions requires a licensed veterinarian qualification in Finland. Veterinarians qualified in other EU/EEA countries must demonstrate familiarity with Finnish legislation in a manner approved by the Food Authority (Guideline 7858/04.01.00.01/2021/5). Good oral and written Finnish language skills are required. Due to the short-term nature of the positions, previous experience in veterinary public health tasks is preferred. Prior managerial experience is an advantage for the managerial role. Besides qualifications, suitability for the role will be assessed. The duration of the temporary positions is at least until the end of October or as agreed. Work can start immediately. Employment terms are based on the KVTES agreement. The salary for relief veterinarians is a base pay of €5963.45/month, plus experience and other possible allowances. The salary for the acting chief veterinarian is €6210.48/month. A trial period of up to half the duration of the temporary position applies. Applications can be submitted via Kuntarekry or directly to the service area manager or their substitute. Positions will be filled as suitable candidates are found.
