The special educational needs assistant participates in assisting students during lessons, breaks and day-to-day matters during the school day in classrooms or in a special group. He/she participates in the planning of school work, guidance and rehabilitation in multidisciplinary working groups. The assistant works in various supervisory tasks and supports everyday school life during the school day. His/her duties also include acting as a supervisor in the after-school club on his/her own shift and supervising waiting students as needed. The position requires either a pedagogical and guidance sector qualification or a social and health care basic qualification, i.e. a practical nurse qualification. A police background check under the Criminal Records Act section 6(2) must be provided before taking up the post. If no eligible applicants meet the qualifications, the position may be filled temporarily by a suitable applicant. Knowledge of Sami language and work experience are considered an advantage.
