As a child day care worker, you will oversee your group's well-being, safety, and smooth daily routines with your team. A key part of the role is sensitive interaction, warm engagement, and considering each child's individual needs. In collaboration with other early childhood education staff, you ensure that pedagogical activities are planned, diverse, and supportive of the child’s development. You will have the opportunity to support the growth of young children through play, movement, and everyday discoveries. Small-group activities and guiding them are familiar and natural to you. Soukankujan day care seeks an enthusiastic, experienced and proactive employee for a permanent early childhood education assistant position in a home-like day care. The work focuses on a small group of 3–5-year-olds at the start of the employment, consisting of 18 children. The group also includes two early childhood education teachers and additional staff. Our day care has four groups for 0–5-year-olds. On the upper floor are two smaller groups for 3–5-year-olds named Little Animals (Lemmikit) and Flowers (Esikot). On the ground floor are two groups, Neilikat and Kielot, each with 12 children and three educators. We also have support staff to enable smooth small-group work and daily life in different groups and to support the unit’s pedagogy. We value an open and positive work culture, humor, resilience, and creativity to handle changing daily situations. We collaborate well across teams, especially in the mornings and afternoons, and place importance on themes and celebrations. Weekly, our unit includes a special education teacher and a language/culture teacher on alternating weeks. We emphasize personal attention to each child, positive pedagogy, and a sense of humor. Our staff share a strong understanding of the meaningfulness of early childhood education and a commitment to high-quality early childhood services. We enjoy our work, and a cheerful atmosphere and calm pace are core values. Activities are sometimes planned across groups, and we view multiculturalism as a valuable enrichment. Our day care was fully renovated in 2020, with bright spaces and updated materials. Our unit has participated in the Active Everyday in Early Childhood project and uses MusaPeda methods and Roihuset materials. Our pedagogical focus includes inclusive early education, child participation, language development, the joy of learning and discovery, and supporting play and social skills.
