Basic education substitute teachers' register

Kaarina has 10 comprehensive schools, one of which is a Swedish-language school (grades 1–6), as well as an upper secondary school. The key qualities for working as a substitute in basic education are being cooperative and proactive and not being fazed by unexpected situations. Substitutes must be at least 18 years old and have sufficient Finnish-language skills. Teacher qualification requirements are determined by Decree 986/98 on qualification requirements. Students and people with work experience in the field may also join the substitute register. Substitute teaching at the upper secondary school requires at least completion of university studies in the subject to be taught. Those interested in upper secondary substitutions can contact the upper secondary school principal. Substitutes are required to have a valid criminal record extract in accordance with Act 504/2002. The extract is to be presented according to instructions provided after the application has been submitted. Substitutes are responsible for updating their availability every three months so that their application remains active.
