About the role

Canonical is looking for security-focused software engineers to be integrated across product teams. They will challenge teams to think more deeply about security using practices like threat modeling, architecture reviews, static analysis, and fuzzing. The role covers all aspects of product security, including feature development, vulnerability response, and open source community participation. Engineers collaborate with teams, customers, and partners globally, with travel at least twice a year. The position is remote worldwide.

Job Details

Responsibilities

  • Define, implement, and document new security features
  • Lead security initiatives within product teams
  • Analyze and fix vulnerabilities in open source software
  • Contribute to Ubuntu and upstream projects
  • Audit source code for vulnerabilities
  • Integrate security tools into infrastructure
  • Achieve security certifications
  • Develop cryptographic components and compliance tools
  • Collaborate with external partners on security standards
  • Design security automation and stay updated on industry trends
  • Develop and support security software and best practices

Requirements

  • Strong self-discipline and motivation
  • Experience with open source security practices
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Understanding of security vulnerabilities and fixes
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu)
