This open position is for a Master’s thesis work in the Electrochemical Materials and Applications (EMA) research group at Aalto University, School of Chemical Engineering, Espoo, Finland. The project focuses on the electrochemical oxidation of cellulose after dissolution in alkaline media. Responsibilities include developing and comparing cellulose dissolution approaches in alkaline media (with and without additives), evaluating electrochemical oxidation on model electrocatalysts, characterizing cellulose solutions and relating their properties to electrochemical response, performing advanced electrochemical testing and product quantification if time permits, analyzing and documenting results, presenting progress in group meetings, and contributing to reports and potentially a scientific article. You will be a key member of EMA, enjoying a collaborative and inclusive environment. To succeed, you should be enrolled in a Master’s degree program at Aalto University’s School of Chemical Engineering and have experience in experimental electrochemistry or biomass processing and analysis; strong collaboration skills and good English are required. We offer a five-month full-time position (100%), with salary based on Aalto University’s salary scale (2622 €/month gross). The start date is flexible but earlier is preferred.
