Vocational Teacher

Kainuu Vocational College is seeking a teacher for a permanent lecturer position in social and health care, starting 1.10.2026 or as agreed. The teacher will work as part of the social and health care team, which is primarily responsible for the teaching and guidance of the vocational qualification in social and health care, as well as professional and specialist vocational qualifications in the field. The role includes competence-based teaching and guidance for upper secondary vocational education students, acting as a personal tutor, and being responsible for students' personal competence development plans. Teaching and guidance are mainly carried out as face-to-face instruction at the educational institution and at workplaces in the field. The role may include teaching and guidance for distance or online studies. The job description of a vocational teacher also includes competence assessment (demonstrations), multidisciplinary cooperation with internal and external stakeholders, planning, organizing, developing one's own professional skills and work, and responsibility for safety and economy according to the role. Teaching and guidance work is planned and implemented through collaboration among teachers, so we value good teamwork skills, flexibility, a development-oriented approach, and enthusiasm for using diverse guidance methods in cooperation with the team and working life. In this position, teaching in rehabilitation topics is emphasized. Up-to-date practical work experience in the social and health care sector (e.g., as a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, or nurse/practical nurse) is considered an advantage. We value a broad perspective on the contents of the vocational qualification in social and health care. Eligibility requirements are determined by the provisions concerning teachers of vocational qualification modules in Decree 986/1998 (amended 1150/2017) on the eligibility requirements for teaching staff. We require a suitable higher education degree, pedagogical studies for teachers covering at least 60 ECTS credits or 35 study weeks, and three years of practical work experience in tasks closely corresponding to the content of the teaching assignment, or a suitable university of applied sciences degree, pedagogical studies for teachers covering at least 60 ECTS credits or 35 study weeks, and at least five years of practical work experience in social and health care tasks corresponding to the higher education degree. Additionally, the person providing instruction must have the right to practice a healthcare or social care profession as a licensed professional. The position may be filled on a fixed-term basis if no applicant meeting the eligibility requirements is found. The selected person must present a criminal record extract in accordance with Act 504/2002, an approved medical certificate of health, and, upon separate request, a certificate of a drug test.
