Deacon

Karis-Pojo Swedish Parish is recruiting a deacon. The parish’s deacons carry out client-facing and advocacy work, outreach, and organise volunteer activities and community-building activities within diaconal work. The parish is developing its diaconal work with families, children and young people. Duties also include pastoral care, leading devotions, and participating in worship and other parish activities as needed. We are looking for someone with good collaboration skills and the ability to work independently. You are interested in and able to work with young people, children and families, to develop diaconal work with them, and you have experience and ability in independent and versatile client work. The duties often require travel between the different areas of the parish, so access to a car is desirable. Swedish is the parish’s working language, but Finnish is needed when working with other organisations. Other languages are also needed in client work. Eligibility requirements are set out in the Church’s collection of regulations, no. 162. Language requirements follow chapter 8, section 4 of the Church Order. Knowledge of languages other than Swedish and Finnish is considered an asset. Pay is according to requirement group 503 under KyrkTAK. The person appointed is expected to be a confirmed member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (Church Act, chapter 6, section 1). The person selected must provide a criminal-record extract as specified in section 6 of the Criminal Records Act and a certificate of health. Work begins on 4 January 2027 or by agreement.
