Job Description
As a Staff Team Member Relations Partner, you’ll provide strategic guidance to managers on complex team member relations matters across GitLab’s global organization. You’ll lead sensitive investigations, coach leaders through confidential workplace matters, and partner with Legal and People Business Partners to develop scalable solutions that improve the team member experience while reducing organizational risk. This is a Staff-level individual contributor role that reports to the Team Member Relations Director. You’ll work with a high degree of autonomy on sensitive, high-risk matters, help set direction for how GitLab handles team member relations at scale, and serve as a subject matter expert for leaders and partners across regions. What You’ll Do - Lead sensitive investigations from intake through resolution, including interviewing team members, analyzing information from internal systems, writing investigation reports, and recommending next steps based on your findings. - Coach and advise leaders at all levels on complex team member relations matters, including performance management, while helping them manage business and company risk. - Build proactive programs that help prevent workplace concerns before they escalate. - Partner with Legal and People Business Partners to review and assess team member relations cases, add context, and align on an appropriate approach. - Shape the development, consistent application, and revision of policies as GitLab scales, and review policies, procedures, and initiatives for alignment with applicable requirements and GitLab’s values. - Analyze case trends and provide actionable insights to Legal, People Business Partner teams, and senior leaders to inform scalable programs, policies, and risk-reduction strategies. - Lead department-specific and organization-wide initiatives, ask for feedback, and work with cross-functional partners to deliver scalable solutions. - Support global governance of team member relations policies and practices by interpreting employment laws and regulations and providing guidance on inquiries across jurisdictions. What You’ll Bring - Progressive team member or employee relations experience, including independently leading complex, multi-party workplace investigations. - Working knowledge of United States employment law relevant to team member relations, including the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission processes. - Experience working in a distributed, multi-jurisdiction, or global organization and adapting guidance to different regulatory and cultural contexts. - A track record of influencing change without direct authority and building support with cross-functional partners and senior leaders for organization-wide programs and policy changes. - Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write thorough, defensible investigation reports. - Sound judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and empathy when handling sensitive, complex, and time-sensitive workplace matters or facilitating conflict resolution. - Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, business judgment, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work at a steady pace. - Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional, Professional in Human Resources, or an equivalent certification is preferred but not required. Experience with employment regulations outside the United States is also helpful.
