We are seeking a trainee veterinarian for a temporary position at the Seinäjoki region environmental health unit, Lapua office, from 1 November 2026 to 31 August 2027. The temporary role includes large-animal on-call duties at a frequency of 1 in 6. The unit offers a cooperative and flexible working environment within a large department. On-call duties are remunerated with 9.33 €/h on weekdays and 15.93 €/h on weekends; on-call periods begin at 10:00 on weekdays to ensure daytime quiet. Additional on-call duties on weekdays are compensated at 300 €/weekday and 1500 €/weekend. The reception includes a nurse, with standard equipment plus inhalation anesthesia, anesthesia monitoring equipment, infusion monitor, digital radiography, small-animal ultrasound, and hematology analyzers. Supervision is provided by the unit’s on-call and hygiene veterinarians. The KliniQ patient software is used. Our team is flexible and helpful; clients are practical and grateful for assistance. Overnight shifts during on-call are generally quiet, and daytime workload is balanced. There are good referral opportunities for small animals. We will fill the vacancy as soon as suitable candidates are found. Applicants may be licensed veterinarians in Finland or veterinary students with temporary authorization to practice veterinary medicine. The Seinäjoki area environmental health service operates over 12 municipalities: Alajärvi, Alavus, Evijärvi, Isokyrö, Kauhava, Kuortane, Lappajärvi, Lapua, Seinäjoki, Soini, Vimpeli and Ähtäri, with about 160,000 inhabitants. The team consists of 40 members including environmental health director, health inspectors, chief city veterinarian, executive secretary, veterinary welfare assistant, 14 health inspectors, 17 trainee veterinarians, 3 supervisory veterinarians and 2 hygienic veterinarians.
