School Youth Worker

The youth department of Ylitornio municipality is seeking a school youth worker for the period 1 September 2026 – 30 November 2028. The goal of school youth work is to support the development and growth of youths through youth work methods, strengthen school climate, implement activities that support school community together with other school actors, and implement preventive activities against social exclusion in schools. A core aspect of school youth work is genuine presence and engagement in the school’s everyday life. A transitional work from primary to secondary school is an important part of the role. The primary worksite is at the Youth House and at the nearby Ainiovaara Elementary School. In addition to the school-based youth work, the youth worker also serves the municipality’s youth services during youth leisure time. During school weeks, hours lean toward office hours, but duties also include evening work and, if needed, weekend and camp work. The content, working hours and focus areas can be adjusted within the approved project plan and the services of Ylitornio’s youth services according to individual professional interests, wishes and strengths. The job is to be carried out with a developmental professional approach. The work community consists of the youth services colleagues and school staff. Eligibility requires a relevant education, e.g. youth and community instructor, social services student (sosionomi) or community pedagogue. Salary according to KVTES 2VAP60B1. A three-month trial period applies. The selected person must submit a criminal background check in accordance with the Act on Background Checks for Working with Children (504/2002) within 30 days of receiving the decision. The position is fixed-term due to project funding until 30 November 2028, with potential for extension after the current funding period.
