Fortum, Teollisuuden Voima, Vattenfall and Uniper are launching the fourth Nordic Nuclear Trainee Program (NNTP), a joint initiative for future nuclear professionals. The Nordic Nuclear Trainee Program offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of the nuclear industry while building valuable connections across the Nordic nuclear sector. You'll connect with experienced professionals, build a strong network, and gain first-hand insight into the role nuclear energy plays in the energy transition. At the same time, you'll gain hands-on experience in your role as Specialist, New Nuclear Engineering at Fortum and develop skills that will support your future career in the industry. The program begins in January 2027 and runs until December 2027. NNTP is a paid trainee program. During the program, you will be employed by Fortum in a fixed-term position as a Specialist, New Nuclear Engineering and participate in trainee activities alongside your daily work. About your role at Fortum: Do you have experience in geological surveys, drilling, rock or tunnel excavation, construction, or construction site and logistics planning? If so, this could be a great opportunity to broaden your expertise. We are looking for a Specialist for the Engineering department of the New Nuclear business area to manage, coordinate and support activities related to geological site characterizations and rock construction or construction site and logistic planning. The role and additional responsibilities will be tailored according to the education, experience, and interests of the applicant. In this role you will have an opportunity to be involved broadly in the development of Fortum’s New Nuclear and the position provides you with a possibility to learn about development of a nuclear newbuild project. The role is fixed term, starting from November-December 2026 until December 2027, and the work will be done alongside the NNTP. The position is located in Espoo, Finland. Your assignments may include e.g.: Participation in and contribution to different kinds of investigations, assessments and tasks supporting geological characterizations of the site as well as construction and excavation planning. Assessment of the impacts of the geological conditions of the site to plant designs and site layout. Planning of cooling water arrangements What we are looking for To be successful in this role, the following should resonate very well with you: Collaboration effectively in cross-functional settings with good communication and language skills. Good command of the English language (written and oral) is a must. Finnish and/or Swedish language skills will be considered as an advantage. Systematic, organized and goal oriented – strong drive to finish projects and assignments in accordance with given time schedules and milestones. Good interpersonal characteristics and people skills. Working with different stakeholders in a multicultural environment comes naturally for you. Questioning attitude and desire to learn. Effective problem identification and solution skills, with a strong sense of responsibility. You have a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a suitable field, e.g. civil/rock engineering, rock construction or geology, and a couple of years of relevant working experience. You should have a general understanding of: geology and hydrogeology geological and geophysical investigations understanding on how geological information is collected, handled and modelled (including 3D visualisation) excavation techniques and rock construction Knowledge and experience from large infrastructure construction projects is a plus.
