
Senior Design Manager
Overview As a Microsoft Datacenter Engineering Design Manager, you will report directly to the Sub-Regional Design Program Manager, assigned to manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield and retrofit engineering / design projects through all stages of the project from site due diligence, design and construction as assigned in Spain and in other EMEA locations as required. As a CO+I Datacenter Engineering Design Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services. Our datacenter portfolio spans more than 200 locations in 32 countries, supporting billions of customers and millions of businesses. Responsibilities Manage internal and external resources to deliver due diligence, construction permitting, building shell/core engineering and design, power, cooling, telecommunications, and controls infrastructure aligned to Microsoft's datacenter capacity roadmap. Support engineering procurement strategies, contract negotiations, and scope management to maximize project value. Provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and leadership for datacenter architectural and engineering designs. Oversee multiple concurrent design solutions and manage design deliverables of MS consultants. Identify and mitigate design, permitting, constructability, and delivery risks driving timely resolution of cross-functional issues. Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, standardization, and best practices across projects, regions, and disciplines. Engage with MS stakeholders and external vendors specializing in datacenter architecture and engineering. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Design Management, or related field or equivalent experience. Extensive experience delivering engineering and/or construction infrastructure projects. Proven experience as lead engineer/architect/design manager/project manager on large-scale infra projects. Significant cross-functional and cross-team leadership experience. Preferred Qualifications Chartered/Professional Engineer, Project Management certification, Registered Architect, or equivalent accreditation. Experience in commercial/industrial architecture and engineering for datacenters. Experience with Design-Build and/or Design-Bid-Build delivery methods. Knowledge of local building codes and standards; experience with site due diligence and infrastructure development. Other Requirements Ability to meet Microsoft security screenings. This role is on-site in Spain.
