The Education sector oversees two committees, the Education Committee and the Welfare Committee, and related tasks. Services within the Education sector form a significant part of the wellbeing, skills, inclusion, and vitality of the residents of Paimio. Approximately 400 people work in the sector, of whom about 320 are permanent. The 2026 budget for operating expenses is about 33.4 million euros. Paimio City seeks a visionary and capable Education Director to lead, reform, and develop the education services with a strong and motivating approach. As Education Director you will lead the sector as a whole and shape a vision for what education services in future Paimio will require. The aim is continuous development of services, a functional and appropriate organisation, and effective, financially sustainable use of resources. As Education Director you will be responsible for strategic, financial, and pedagogical leadership of the entire sector as well as HR leadership. We expect you to view the sector without preconceptions and, if necessary, reform its structures, processes, and task division. You understand the sector’s significance in developing the city’s vitality and can make it visible in decision-making and collaboration with stakeholders. You see high-quality early childhood education, schooling, culture, sports, and leisure services as an investment in Paimio’s future. As Education Director you will be part of the City Manager’s management team and participate in the city’s strategic leadership and development. What we expect from you: the position requires a suitable higher education degree, a degree in education administration, and good knowledge of the sector and municipal administration, plus leadership experience. We expect experience in management and supervisory roles, strong financial acumen, a holistic view, and the ability to develop operations in line with strategy and cost-effectiveness, as well as the ability to drive changes in good collaboration with both internal actors and external stakeholders. In particular, the ability to see the Education sector as a whole and to identify opportunities to strengthen the city’s vitality, appeal, and attractiveness is required. You should have the courage to challenge existing practices, identify change needs, and the ability to jointly develop workable solutions with staff and elected representatives. You are a reforming but listening leader. You can combine economy, personnel, service quality and strategic goals into a coherent whole. You drive matters forward with determination, while also understanding the importance of participation and good change management. Successful performance in the role requires good communication and collaboration skills and the ability to operate at the interface of political decision-making and professional leadership. Salary is determined according to KvTES. Applicants may state their salary expectations. The appointee must present an acceptable medical certificate before the oath of office. A six-month probation period applies to filling the vacancy. The position starts on 1 November 2026 or by agreement. Interviews will be held in week 38, and those advancing may undergo a suitability assessment if applicable.
