Occupational Safety and Quality Manager
Vantaa, Tampere, Oulu, Rovaniemi/elsewhere in Finland
Mitta Oy
Mitta is a Finnish, internationally operating measurement and geospatial consulting company. In Finland, we employ nearly 400 experts across the country and serve our customers throughout the construction value chain. Mitta provides reliable information and expert services to support sustainable and profitable decisions.
Our fields of operation include measurement, soil investigation, laboratory services, environmental services and monitoring. Mitta was founded in Oulu in 1989, and our head office is still located there. Acquisitions have brought the company diverse expertise and different ways of working. The next phase is to strengthen shared practices and harmonise ways of working throughout the organisation.
Despite our growth, Mitta has remained down-to-earth, with a low hierarchy. We work straightforwardly, help our colleagues and share expertise. Read more about us at www.mitta.fi.
Are you an experienced occupational safety and quality management professional who wants to apply your expertise in a meaningful role and see its impact in practice across Finland? We are looking for you to strengthen our team in a role where you can genuinely develop working practices and put them into use throughout the organisation. You can choose your main workplace from our offices in different parts of Finland. Welcome to work in the multifaceted measurement and geospatial sector!
Occupational Safety and Quality Manager
As Occupational Safety and Quality Manager, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing occupational safety and quality in Finland. You will also contribute to the Group’s joint sustainability reporting for the areas under Finland’s responsibility. You will report on your area of responsibility to our CEO, Anne.
At the beginning of the role, the clear priority is occupational safety. Your key tasks include assessing the current safety situation and development needs, developing consistent ways of working, and putting them into practice at our offices and worksites.
From the outset, you will also be responsible for maintaining and developing Mitta’s Finnish quality management system and carrying out audits in a planned manner. In addition, you will coordinate sustainability work in Finland, develop related practices and contribute to preparing the joint sustainability report for Finland and Sweden, ensuring that Finnish information is collected and reported.
This is an independent, practical expert-manager role. You will not only plan and coordinate, but also carry out safety, quality and sustainability work yourself and implement agreed measures. The role does not include a dedicated delivery team to which you could delegate the work. You will work close to the business and management, as well as where safety and quality are ultimately determined: in practical work, at offices and on worksites. You will have management support, the mandate needed to carry out the role, and the opportunity to draw on the organisation’s expertise. Independent responsibility does not mean being solely responsible: putting safety, quality and sustainability into practice is the responsibility of the whole organisation. The role involves some travel around Finland.
First-year objectives
The occupational safety landscape, key risks and customer requirements have been taken in hand systematically, and the most important development measures have been prioritised and launched.
Safety reporting, incident handling and key instructions have been harmonised, and the practices are more firmly reflected in daily operations.
A target state, roadmap and responsibilities have been defined for developing Finland’s quality management system, and the agreed first-stage actions have been completed.
The quality system and external audits are managed systematically, and the system is developed to support business needs.
A clear operating model, responsibilities and annual calendar have been established for sustainability work in Finland, and Finnish information is produced systematically for the joint sustainability report for Finland and Sweden.
Progress on agreed measures and improvements can be demonstrated to customers.
What do we expect?
We are looking for an experienced, practical occupational safety professional with substantial experience in developing safety, managing risks and embedding working practices into everyday operations. Relevant education could be in technology, production, construction, environmental, quality or safety fields.
You know the ISO 9001 quality management system and can independently develop safety and quality practices. We value experience in field work, construction, infrastructure, industry or another safety-critical operating environment. What matters is a sufficient understanding of the whole, the ability to coordinate information gathering and readiness to deepen your expertise in the role. Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, sustainability or QHSE/HSEQ is an advantage.
You know how to listen, influence and bring people along through change. Your approach combines a suitable degree of determination and approachability with the ability to build effective practices together with the organisation. You have good collaboration and communication skills. The role requires Finnish and English language skills and willingness to travel in Finland.
What does Mitta offer you?
This is a responsible expert-manager role in which you will have considerable independence and management support for your development work.
