About the role

We are seeking an Early Childhood Education Director for the City of Mikkeli, starting 1 November 2026, within the City’s Culture and Wellbeing Services area. The director is the head of the Early Childhood Education subunit and is responsible for budgeting, personnel, operations, and development in line with city policies. The role includes preparation and implementation of subunit matters, achievement of financial and functional goals, and development of service structures, subsidies decisions related to early childhood education, development projects, and cooperation with private providers. The director oversees early childhood education, special early childhood education, pre-school education, home care and private care support, and subsidised services delivered via service vouchers. The position requires a suitable higher education degree and strong knowledge of municipal administration and early childhood services, excellent leadership capabilities, and strong communication and presentation skills. Proven track record in strategic development is valued. Working hours are standard office hours at 36h15min per week. Salary and terms follow the KVTES agreement. The city offers an annual wellness and cultural benefit via Epassi and a wide training range. Flexible working hours and partial remote work up to 12 days per month are available.
