Senior Protection Engineer

The opportunity The Hitachi Energy Grid Automation business in Vaasa or Helsinki, Finland, is seeking an enthusiastic, flexible and curious Senior Protection Engineer to strengthen our innovative engineering and testing team that specializes in the control and protection area of substation automation projects. As a Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for the successful execution of the control and protection scope of our substation automation projects globally. Within those projects, you will work closely with the project manager, the SCADA engineer and the customer to deliver successful outcomes. Depending on project size, you will technically lead a small team of engineers based in our global engineering centers that support you in delivering the project on time and with the highest quality. You will be part of a large world-class engineering community within Hitachi Energy Hub Europe, surrounded by colleagues with many years of expertise in executing large and complex substation automation projects globally. How you’ll make an impact Develop protection and control concepts for (sub-)transmission systems in close collaboration with the customer. Lead the hardware design of the bay level cubicles within the substation. Configure Protection and Control IEDs for (sub-)transmission substations in line with customer specification. Conduct factory testing of the project in the Vaasa test area and lead the Factory Acceptance Test in front of the customer. Perform the control and protection site tests at customer sites. Lead a small team of engineers based in our global engineering centers. Your background Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer or systems engineering, or related field. Experience in substation control and protection systems and IEC61850. Experience with Hitachi Energy protection and control IED portfolio (Relion family and PCM600) and/or experience with E3.series (hardware design) is a plus. Strong teamwork, customer focus, safety, quality and efficiency; ability to work independently and coordinate with stakeholders within the project team. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. Structured and proactive engineering approach with commitment to budget and project plan.
