ATA Gears is an internationally known manufacturer of bevel gears, whose expertise is based on a long, nearly 90-year history, modern machinery, uncompromising quality and people who are passionate about power transmission and the development work they do. We are now looking for a new machinist for our machining centres. Your main duties Five-axis machining is demanding and rewarding work, where every component presents its own challenge. Your workday begins with a shift handover and a review of ongoing work. During the day, your work includes interpreting drawings, planning workholding solutions, selecting tools and carrying out professionally engaging CNC machining. CAD/CAM programming is a central part of the work: you prepare programmes for new jobs, develop and optimise existing processes, and take responsibility for machining quality from start to finish. Your work also includes measuring components, quality assurance, and developing and optimising working methods. We want you to be able to manage the machining process as a whole and see the big picture rather than just individual stages. The work is mainly independent, but you are not left on your own. Experienced colleagues and supervisors are there to support you when needed. Machines and working environment ATA Gears’ fleet used for five-axis machining is exceptionally diverse and technically advanced. The available workstations include DMU 270P and DMU 200P machining centres, a DMC 160 machining centre, a Mikron HPM1850U machining centre, and, on the turning side, a DMG NT 5X and an Okuma Multus five-axis lathe. These machines allow large and geometrically demanding components to be machined with high precision. You will receive thorough training for machining tasks, with sufficient time allocated to learning each machine. The link in the original advertisement provides further information about our machines. Induction You will receive a structured induction at ATA Gears according to an induction plan. General induction covers our ways of working, and an experienced machine operator colleague already working on the machine will guide you in machining tasks. We always set aside enough time for training, and at first the work is supervised and carried out in pairs. New employees have repeatedly praised our induction. Training on each machining task often takes at least several months. What kind of person are we looking for? This position requires solid experience in demanding CNC machining and the use of multi-axis machines. Applicants must have previous CNC machining experience as well as CAD/CAM programming experience. We particularly emphasise CAD skills: they are central to this role and underpin a large part of the daily work. Previous multi-axis machining experience is a significant advantage. The role also calls for skills in designing and implementing workholding solutions, good drawing-reading skills, and the ability to use measuring instruments and perform quality assurance. Succeeding in the role requires the ability to work independently and readiness to manage the entire machining process from beginning to end. We are known for exceptionally high quality and want to maintain that reputation, so care, precision and the ability to spot deviations are valued. We especially appreciate experience machining demanding and large components, as well as the ability to develop and optimise working methods. We are looking for someone whose approach combines precision, care and initiative, qualities that show in the results every day. If you are a professional looking for genuine technical challenges and are not afraid to take responsibility for complete processes, this could be the right role for you. Our exceptionally extensive machine fleet allows us to offer every motivated machinist challenges and tasks suited to their level. In your application, tell us what you can do and have worked on, and where you would still like to develop. Why work at ATA Gears? We offer the opportunity to work on technically demanding and interesting components. The work is not repetitive mass production; it is varied machining that develops your professional skills. Our modern machine fleet and specialist expertise provide excellent conditions for growing into a top machining professional. We are proud of our reputation as designers of some of the world’s most reliable gears, technical experts, and specialists in heat treatment, quality control and classification processes. Our products are supplied to the marine, defence and process industries, mineral processing, rail transport and special vehicles. Over the years, our products have been supplied for everything from icebreakers and the Näsinneula observation tower to Formula 1 cars. You will join a team of true professionals. Our working community is calm, skilled and helpful, and long employment relationships reflect a good atmosphere. The average employment relationship with us lasts 17 years. We are a stable, long-term employer that invests in induction and employee well-being. Staff meals are offered as an in-kind benefit, and free parking is available to employees. Over the next few years, we will expand the production facilities on Hautalankatu and invest significantly in our premises and machinery. Our future prospects are good. Employment details We offer permanent employment. Work is generally done in two, three or even four shifts. The same shift is worked continuously for one week. The morning shift is 06:00–14:00, the evening shift 14:00–22:00 and the night shift 22:00–06:00. Weekend work is 06:00–18:00. Working time is 40 hours per week, with working-time reductions accrued. The employer is flexible about different working-time arrangements where possible. You may include your salary expectation in your application, alongside your skills and experience. We provide appropriate work clothes, safety shoes and other protective equipment needed for the job. Occupational healthcare is available from your first working day. Location and transport ATA Gears has two locations in Tampere: Atala at Aitolahdentie 75 and Linnainmaa at Hautalankatu 32. Your workstation will be at one or the other depending on the machine you operate. Both locations are easy to reach by public transport. Recruitment process and schedule We review applications continuously. Work starts as soon as a suitable person is found or by agreement. We have made applying easy. You do not need to write a novel about yourself, but we would be glad to hear about your previous experience and why you would be the right next colleague for us.
