About the role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and build the billing platform behind a novel search engine tailored for agentic AI consumption. This role is based in our New York office, hybrid with the NYC team. Our APIs are used by millions of developers and AI agents who pay based on consumption. You will own systems that turn product usage into revenue, supporting flexible billing models—usage-based pricing, subscriptions, prepaid balances with auto top-up, and enterprise contracts. Responsibilities include end-to-end design and operation of the billing platform, metering and usage aggregation pipelines, prepaid credits with auto top-up, enterprise billing with custom pricing, and ensuring invoice accuracy. Lead migration to the next generation of our billing system with zero revenue loss or downtime. Define observability and quality metrics for billing correctness, freshness, and throughput. Ensure compliance with SOX and financial audits.

Responsibilities

  • Design and operate the billing platform end to end
  • Build metering and usage-aggregation pipelines
  • Design and operate prepaid credit/wallet systems
  • Support enterprise/contract billing
  • Build reconciliation and idempotency safeguards
  • Lead migration to next-gen billing system
  • Define observability and quality metrics
  • Ensure SOX/compliance

Requirements

  • 6+ years building production backend systems
  • 3+ years billing or metering systems in production
  • Experience with usage-based metered billing
  • Experience with subscription/recurring billing
  • Experience with prepaid credits/wallet systems
  • Experience with enterprise/contract billing
  • Experience with third-party billing integration (Stripe Billing, Metronome, Orb, Zuora)
  • Strong Python and TypeScript/Node
  • PostgreSQL or equivalent
  • Data warehouse pipelines (Kafka or Kinesis to Snowflake/BigQuery)
  • SOX/compliance experience
  • PLG billing for high-volume self-serve users
  • Auth0/Okta in production
