Head of Structural Engineering Department

Would you like to be one of us? We are seeking a Head of the Structural Engineering Department in Kotka who wants to invest in their department’s success and development in the future market. In this role you will combine expertise, people leadership, customer work and business development in a way that your fingerprint is visible in daily team life, project success and the development of the department as part of the structural engineering industry. You will have freedom to build the department’s operation together with staff, customers and other leadership in structural engineering. We have a flat organizational structure in structural engineering and you will have a big impact on the whole field. As the Head of the Structural Engineering Department you will primarily be responsible for your own department’s sales, bidding and customer activity, supervisory work and staff coaching. Your work includes high-level project leadership and developing the department with a capable and experienced team and with other parts of the organization. The role also includes administrative tasks in HR, finance and communications. This is a role for someone who wants to be close to both people and business. You will support experts to succeed, build customer relationships and ensure the department has the conditions to perform high-quality and impactful design work. Our projects currently range from large public construction projects to residential building design, and industrial design projects are also part of our operations. Our project portfolio enables a diverse business across industries. In the role you will lead a 20-person structural design team where long-standing expertise, strong client relationships and a will to develop operations together converge. You are not building everything from scratch, but leading a ready-made, skilled and committed team by bringing your own experience to strengthen the department towards the future. What background suits the role? We expect you to have: an AMK or university degree in engineering or another suitable higher education degree Strong background in structural design Experience in HR and financial leadership At least a degree of competence in concrete and/or steel structures Demonstrates motivation to develop the department and its people to excel Ability to guide and support staff Understanding of the financial aspects of design Contacts with industry players Evidence of successful structural design and project leadership Good Finnish written and spoken skills Presence at Kotka office in a hybrid model It’s an advantage to have: Experience in supervisory tasks Wide expertise in structural design across different tasks and building types Knowledge handling in BIM with Tekla Structures An innovative mindset for the future practices of structural design However we did not craft a perfect job; you are the best expert of your work, know your skills and well‑being best, and you can steer your career in the direction you want.
