Assistant Chief Physician

HUS is seeking a specialist in anaesthesiology or anaesthesiology and intensive care for an Assistant Chief Physician post in its Surgery and Intensive Care Centre. We are seeking an assistant chief physician for a permanent public-service employment relationship from 1 January 2027 or by agreement. The post is shared by the Surgery and Intensive Care Centre, and its current placement is the anaesthesia and surgery unit at Peijas Hospital. New appointments have a probationary period of up to six months. There are two assistant chief physician posts in the anaesthesia and surgery unit at Peijas Hospital. Together, the assistant chief physicians are responsible for the daily management and smooth operation of the surgery unit, the site’s other anaesthesia locations and the surgical process. The work includes coordinating anaesthesiologists’ daily work allocation and acting as the chief physician’s substitute when necessary. The assistant chief physician also maintains and develops the unit’s guidelines, participates in processing incident reports and works actively in clinical patient care. The assistant chief physician works closely with the chief physician and the unit’s head nurses. The chief physician of the Peijas anaesthesia and surgery unit is the assistant chief physician’s administrative supervisor. Peijas Hospital anaesthesia and surgery unit The unit performs orthopaedic surgery on the upper and lower limbs, joint replacement surgery and emergency trauma surgery. Robotic urological surgery and complex urological cancer surgery are concentrated in the unit. It also performs endoscopic urology, emergency urological procedures and robot-assisted hernia surgery. A team specialising in long-term venous access works in the unit. Anaesthesiologists are responsible for patients’ preoperative assessments and developing these assessments together with nursing representatives. They also work at the site’s other anaesthesia locations, including the acute pain clinic, neuromodulation unit, observation ward and emergency department. There are 17 operating theatres on two floors and 37 recovery spaces. A new surgery-unit building is under construction, and the move to the new premises is expected to take place in 2028. What we hope from you Successful performance in the post requires experience in the daily management of operating-room activities and in developing operating processes. Strong teamwork and communication skills are also emphasised in the selection. The post includes on-call duties. Eligibility requirements You must hold specialist qualification in a suitable specialty (anaesthesiology or anaesthesiology and intensive care) and be a licensed physician or have permission to work in a physician’s role. The language requirement is good spoken and written Finnish and satisfactory spoken and written Swedish, or good spoken and written Swedish and satisfactory spoken and written Finnish. Employees working in customer and patient areas must have vaccination protection under the Communicable Diseases Act. Employees working in healthcare units must provide a health assessment for pulmonary tuberculosis. Salary The role-specific salary follows the career-step pay under the physician agreement and is at least €7,772.52 per month, plus possible experience-related and other supplements.
