We are seeking a Finnish as a second language (S2) teacher for vocational education. We look for student‑centered, cooperative and development‑minded S2 teacher to support learners with diverse language backgrounds in learning and study progress. As an S2 teacher you work as part of vocational education teaching and the daily student life. A central part of the role is embedded S2 teaching, where you participate in vocational subject lessons together with students and the vocational teacher. You support students especially in the language of vocational education, study skills and assignments. The work combines S2 teaching, individual guidance and close collaboration with vocational teachers and other staff. Your duties include: planning and implementing S2 teaching; participating in vocational subject lessons as S2 teacher; strengthening students’ language proficiency and study skills; supporting students in understanding vocational content, instructions and tasks; individual and small‑group guidance; cooperation with vocational teachers and other staff; addressing students’ different support needs; developing linguistically informed teaching and operating culture. We expect: a higher university degree and S2 teaching qualification; experience teaching Finnish as a second language; good communication and collaboration skills; student‑centered and encouraging work approach; ability to consider students’ varying language and learning readiness; flexibility and readiness to operate in different teaching situations; interest in vocational education and its development. Knowledge of vocational education and experience working with students from different language and cultural backgrounds are considered an advantage. The Criminal Records Act requires that a background check be presented before taking the position. Trial period 3 months.
