About the role

Turku regards culture as a significant source of vitality and well-being and a key part of the city’s image. Culture is visible, audible and tangible everywhere and part of life for both residents and visitors to Turku. In 2029 we celebrate our 800th anniversary, with culture playing a central role. Turku develops art and culture through broad collaboration and continuous renewal. The city has strong museum, visual arts and music scenes and a vibrant network of free art actors. Turku has invested heavily in cultural content and new venues. Our library, developing with the times, serves Turku residents of all ages at a national top level. The Cultural Facilities Manager leads the cultural service portfolio and is responsible for regional and national collaboration and advocacy within their area. The service portfolio develops and organizes the city’s cultural, museum, library, orchestra and general cultural services and collaborates with the independent art sector. The Cultural Director reports directly to the City Secretary and is part of the city’s management team. We seek a person with solid experience in the culture and arts sector. Successful performance requires understanding of municipal administration and decision-making and experience of leading large entities. Strong negotiation and interaction skills and presentation ability are also valued. In addition, good language skills and a listening and development-oriented approach are valued. Eligibility requires a higher university degree. The selected person must present a health status certificate (KVhL 7 §). A confidential security clearance may be conducted with the candidate’s consent and a drug test may be requested under the law. The selection requires that the candidate is deemed suitable based on these checks. The total salary is 7 939,74 €/month. Employment benefits include versatile training, a cheaper Föli commuter card for bus travel, and a Tyky wristband for city sports and cultural services.
