Assistant Ward Manager

The City of Helsinki is seeking an Assistant Ward Manager for the palliative and end-of-life care unit at Suursuon Hospital. The role begins as a fixed-term contract from September 21, 2026, to December 31, 2026, with the possibility of becoming permanent. The unit is a 25-bed facility providing individualized and high-quality care, specializing in PCA medication pumps for pain management. The Assistant Ward Manager works as a partner to the Ward Manager in administrative tasks and as a field supervisor in care duties. Key responsibilities include daily management, supporting staff competence, and developing and monitoring ward operations. The position involves 2-shift work, and the employee is responsible for their own shift scheduling. Success in the role requires resilience, calmness, the ability to react to changing situations, strong communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently and make decisions. Experience in shift planning, Rafaela, medication administration, PCA pumps, and personnel work is valued. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team including doctors, psychologists, social workers, and hospital chaplains.
