Software Development Lead

Your role as Lead Developer We are looking for an experienced, backend-focused Lead Developer / Senior Full Stack Developer, especially for our long-term customer in the financial sector. You will provide technical direction at team level and combine architecture, hands-on development and coaching colleagues. You will build and develop banking, insurance and financial services used every day, such as payment solutions, insurance service channels and digital customer channels. Your work will directly affect the everyday lives of thousands of people in Finland. You will act as the team’s technical lead: plan and guide implementation architecture, make key technical decisions together with the team and stakeholders, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure and business-oriented. You will lead architecture work, identify risks and areas for development, and constructively challenge current practices to support long-term development. You will also actively take part in development by writing high-quality code. You will work alongside experienced HiQ colleagues and the customer’s team, which uses agile methods. Projects are often long-term, making this an excellent opportunity if you are looking for stable, sustained work. Technology environment The customer’s environment uses, among other things: Cloud services: Azure (SaaS/PaaS, e.g. AKS, Azure Functions, PostgreSQL/Redis/CosmosDB PaaS) Backend: Java, Spring Boot, integration and API solutions (REST API, integration technologies) Frontend: TypeScript/JavaScript, React Containers and orchestration: Kubernetes and/or Docker Relational databases and other modern database solutions What we expect To succeed in the role, you have: Around 7+ years of experience in demanding software development projects Strong backend development experience in Java and expertise in system integrations, APIs and databases A good understanding of modern architectural patterns, such as cloud, microservices and API-oriented architectures Experience with Azure-based environments and DevOps-oriented work (CI/CD pipelines, Git-based development and continuous improvement of production environments) A track record of Senior/Lead-level work: you can both design and implement, and you want to coach other developers Fluent Finnish and English The following are considered an advantage: Understanding of reactive programming Experience considering non-functional requirements (scalability, performance, security and maintainability) in architecture and implementation Experience with enterprise-level banking or insurance systems, payment solutions or other financial products Experience developing and maintaining production-critical, widely used digital services Knowledge of, or a strong interest in, using AI-assisted tools in modern software development, as well as an understanding of responsible AI use Willingness to work in a multicultural team, share your expertise and actively develop both your own and the team’s technical capabilities The role follows a hybrid model. A typical week includes around 2–3 days at the customer’s premises in the Helsinki metropolitan area and remote work. Working on the financial-sector account requires a security clearance and, among other things, a credit check.
