The focus of the position is on music education. The job includes planning, implementing, and developing music activities for children, youth, and young adults in collaboration with educational staff, participating in confirmation camp work, and performing the basic duties of a cantor. Managing the musical life of the cathedral and church services at the Cathedral requires versatile organ skills across various musical styles. Each cantor takes turns singing in the service. Youth services are an important part of the cantor's duties. The job content can be developed according to the strengths of the selected person, for example, in band or choir work. Espoo Cathedral Parish is a large and diverse congregation. The community includes people of all ages, various families, and a growing group of young adults. Our work community is skilled, enthusiastic, and development-oriented. The work is carried out in close cooperation with different departments and partners. The music team includes five cantors and three music kindergarten teachers. As a cantor, you will work both in the historic cathedral and in the chapels across our large area. Espoo Parish Consortium offers comprehensive occupational health services, a lunch benefit, and sports and cultural benefits. Qualifications are based on church regulations. The position requires a higher university degree (level B). The candidate must have a degree according to the decision of the Church Council (Church Regulations Collection No. 163) section 2 and studies according to section 5. Degrees recognized under previous decisions by the Church Council or the Bishop's Conference are considered as specified in section 9, paragraph 3 of the regulation. The position will be filled starting February 1, 2027, or by agreement. Please attach proof of cantor qualification and transcripts to your application. The position requires excellent spoken and written Finnish language skills and satisfactory understanding of Swedish. The appointee must be a confirmed member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. The position belongs to difficulty group 601 (salary from €3,628 to €4,074 per month depending on experience from February 1, 2027). The employment includes a six-month probation period. The selected candidate must present a criminal background check as per section 6, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Records Act and a medical certificate of health before starting the position. The recruitment process includes an interview and a music sample. Details about the samples will be provided to those invited for an interview.
