About the role

The Sleep Fitness Movement - join a high-performance hardware team at Eight Sleep. We’re on a mission to deliver cutting-edge technology for sleep as a personalized, data-driven recovery tool. The role: experienced mechanical engineer with thermal design expertise to develop products from concept to production. You’ll own the thermal performance of the Pod Hub engine and Pod Cover core, within a small mission-driven team. San Francisco-based with ~20% travel to China for manufacturing support. Key duties include ensuring industry-leading thermal performance, optimizing for performance, size, noise and cost, collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams, and creating test systems for development and production. Requirements: 3+ years in thermal systems, thermal/fluids analysis, simulation tools IcePak/Fluent, data tools Python/Matlab, CAD Solidworks/NX/Creo, BS ME or equivalent; MS/PhD preferred; willingness to travel to China. Responsibilities

  • Ensure our products have industry leading thermal performance through analysis and design activities
  • Optimize factors such performance, size, noise, and cost across our product portfolio
  • Work closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams to implement designs
  • Create and execute test plans to characterize prototypes and validate analytical results
  • Design test systems for use in development and in production

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in thermal system engineering (e.g. heatsinks, heat pipes, TECs, insulation strategies, thermally conductive materials)
  • Expertise in thermal and fluid analysis, heat transfer fundamentals, thermal instrumentation, DOEs, and root cause analysis techniques
  • Highly proficient with simulation (e.g. IcePak, Fluent) and data analysis tools (e.g. Python, Matlab)
  • Experience shipping high-volume consumer products, including manufacturing support in Asia
  • Proficient in CAD (e.g. Solidworks, NX, Creo) and DFM/DFA
  • BSME or equivalent (MS or PhD preferred)
  • Willingness and ability to travel to China as needed
