Kotka's education department is advertising a substitute for a primary school teacher, teaching subjects in Finnish language and literature and Finnish as a second language and literature, for a fixed period from 2026-10-06 to 2027-06-05. The substitute placement is at Karhula School, which operates across three campuses until the start of the 2027 autumn term. The school has about 700 pupils in grades 6–9. In addition to general education groups, Karhula School offers sports- and music-focused instruction, a flexible basic education group, and special classes. Karhula School is part of the national network of sports high schools. Sports classes are coached in cooperation with the South Kymenlaakso Sports Academy during school hours. We seek an inspiring, development-oriented, cooperative teacher with good teamwork and teaching skills, strong IT capabilities, and a willingness to learn. We value the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and expect readiness to develop and implement flexible teaching arrangements and collaboration across subject and grade boundaries in accordance with OPS objectives, and we hope you are prepared to teach students from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Qualifications are determined by the Decree on Qualifications for Educational Personnel (986/98) and will be checked during the interview if applicable. The selected candidate must provide a health certificate and a police clearance extract regarding working with children prior to finalizing the appointment. The vacancy includes a three-month trial period. Salary is governed by the municipal collective agreement for the education sector. The corresponding task-specific salary in Kotka education is 3539.63 €/month before overtime and annual supplements. Applications are primarily submitted through the recruitment system.
