Project Manager

The City of Helsinki is seeking a Project Manager for a fixed-term position within the Pedagogical Development Unit of the Education Division for the 'Literacy Work in Helsinki' project. The role involves implementing the 'Literacy Work in Helsinki' publication, promoting the adoption of operational recommendations with experts across various sectors, and allocating project funding to innovative trials to improve citizens' literacy. The Project Manager will produce and compile the third part of the publication and establish frameworks for the management and monitoring of literacy work in Helsinki in collaboration with a steering group, as well as developing literacy work with the third sector. Responsibilities include overall project management: achieving goals, ensuring activities follow the project plan, managing the budget, reporting, communication, and organizing stakeholder events. The role serves as a presenter for the steering group and a team leader for the project group. The position involves research and development cooperation with universities, working in national networks and working groups, producing theme-related information, and drafting expert statements. The Pedagogical Development Unit consists of approximately 15 experts working closely with early childhood education, schools, and educational institutions, and is responsible for pedagogical continuing education. The work is multi-location, requiring at least two days of on-site work per week at offices in Kalasatama, as well as working with other literacy experts across the city. Success in this role requires strong expertise in literacy work and project management. Valued skills include cooperation and interaction skills, public speaking experience, clear communication, and experience in project administration and establishing new operating models. The ideal candidate is flexible, proactive, persistent, and comfortable in digital environments. Extensive knowledge of the city's services (e.g., education, libraries, culture, leisure, or family services) and their literacy work is an advantage.
