Principal

A position for a Principal is open starting 19.10.2026 at Rantakylä Comprehensive School. The Principal is responsible for developing the school's pedagogical operating culture, as well as planning and managing school operations. The Principal of the comprehensive school is assisted in their work by a permanent deputy principal. The school is located about five kilometers from the city center, close to excellent outdoor and recreational opportunities. The school's operational philosophy is to build a learning path that supports the principle of lifelong learning, is based on the current curriculum, and is implemented in cooperation with homes and the local environment. Rantakylä Comprehensive School is an innovative and development-oriented school with approximately 720 students. Bilingual education (Finnish-English) will start at the school in August 2026. Eligibility requirements for the position are the qualifications for a basic education principal (higher university degree) according to the Decree on the Qualifications of Teaching Staff (986/1998), sufficient work experience in principal and teacher roles, a degree in educational administration, or sufficient knowledge of educational administration acquired in other ways. We also value good knowledge of the education sector, work experience from a comprehensive school, and a vision for the pedagogical development of basic education. Good personnel management and networking skills, as well as previous experience in leadership positions at a comprehensive school, are also considered an advantage. We value the desire to develop the school in cooperation with staff, students, guardians, and partners. A teacher providing basic or pre-primary education must have excellent oral and written skills in the school's language of instruction. Original degree and work certificates, as well as certified copies of degree certificates, must be brought to the interview and left with the interviewer. Before assuming the position, the person appointed must present an acceptable statement of their health status to the employer and show a criminal record extract as referred to in Section 6(2) of the Criminal Records Act (so-called criminal record extract for those working with children). A 6-month probationary period will be set for the selected person. Selection requires the applicant's consent to a drug test.
