Director of the Education and Culture Sector

The city of Pori seeks an experienced and visionary leader for the Education and Culture sector to succeed the current sector director who is retiring. The role involves building prerequisites for Porin residents’ learning, well-being, and active life—from early childhood education to school education, and to culture, sport, and youth work. As the Education and Culture director you will play a central role in shaping what Pori will be like today and in the future. You will lead the sector as a whole, be responsible for its strategy, operational performance, and service development. The position covers early childhood education and basic and upper secondary education as well as culture, sports, and youth services, which have a key impact on the city’s vitality and residents’ well-being. You will serve as a member of the city’s executive group, chair the education-directorate’s leadership team, and act as secretary to two committees. You will lead the heads of the sector’s main service packages and ensure unified, target-driven, and effective leadership. We are looking for a person capable of leading broad entities and moving matters forward in collaboration with different actors. Eligibility requires a relevant higher university degree. Success in the role requires strong and diverse experience in supervisory and leadership tasks, experience in strategic development and change management, evidence of leading large entities, personnel, and finances, ability to manage significant financial totals, good interaction, communication and negotiation skills, and readiness to operate in a political decision-making environment. We value broad understanding of the education and culture sector and interest in developing Pori. In the near future Porin kaupungilla will undertake significant building projects related to the main library and youth center renovations and indoor sports and events facilities. The Education and Culture director has a central role in these projects. The contract is permanent, with a comprehensive pay system; you may state your salary expectations in the application. Six-month trial period applies. A drug test will be conducted for the selected candidate, and a health certificate must be provided before taking office.
