Pohjois-Tapiola School is a new comprehensive school located near good transportation links. There are approximately 850 students and over 130 staff members. The school building was completed in summer 2022, so facilities and equipment are up-to-date. We are seeking professionals in special education to work in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) groups based on activity areas. Our school has one of the largest ASD units in Finland, with eleven classes requiring special support in the upcoming school year, involving about 80 students in both general and activity-area-based curricula. Each class has 6-10 students, and some classes operate as combined classes with students from different grade levels. In addition to teachers, special education assistants support the students. We hope you are prepared to teach students of different ages based on activity areas and capable of leading a classroom team. Excellent communication skills, flexibility, and a supportive work approach are essential. Qualified special education teachers receive an additional pay component based on job complexity. Teacher qualifications are based on the decree no 986/98 on the qualifications of education personnel. According to section 9 of the decree, primary school teachers must have excellent oral and written skills in Finnish. In fixed-term positions, we also consider non-qualified applicants. The role requires the ability to teach based on activity-area curricula, support diverse learners, and maintain well-being. Success in the role depends on strong collaboration skills with parents and other school staff, leading and supporting the classroom team, and adapting to changing situations. Applicants must present a criminal record extract as required by the Criminal Records Act section 6.2. Experience in teaching in a unified basic education school and training in areas such as MAPA and physical restraint are valued.
