The Finnish-language basic education and upper secondary education services of the City of Porvoo are seeking a mathematics teacher for a fixed-term position from August 10, 2026, to June 5, 2027. The placement is at Albert Edelfelt School. Porvoo is a growing and multicultural city. Our schools are based on collaborative work, joy of learning and working, and high-quality pedagogy. The city acts as a responsible and stable employer, offering staff good opportunities for development and skill enhancement. Our modern and renovated schools support both learning and teaching, emphasizing community, participation, and cultural diversity—values reflected in daily work for both learners and staff. Albert Edelfelt School is a comprehensive school with approximately 630 students in grades 1-9. It is located in a building about 15 years old in the Näsin area downtown. The building was renovated a few years ago, and it has excellent facilities for studying and hobbies. A new school yard was completed in 2023. Community and safety are fundamental to our school: students are provided with a familiar and secure nine-year learning path under one roof. We believe that the quality of education is built on everyday interactions. The school employs about 90 staff members daily. The school has a good team spirit: daily activities are characterized by collaboration and humor. Unique features include Swedish-language immersion education for grades 1-9 and eight special classes, seven of which serve students requiring intensive support. The leadership team consists of the principal, deputy principal, and three assistant principals. The full-time mathematics teacher will teach mathematics to grades 7-9. Applicants are expected to describe the following in their application, which will be used for selection. Interviews will be held based on applications. Qualifications are determined according to the decree on the qualifications of education personnel (986/1998). The candidate must have a qualification as a mathematics teacher. Original certificates of qualification must be presented at the interview. It is an advantage to have experience in planning, implementing, and assessing teaching, good cooperation and interaction skills, experience in teamwork, knowledge of teaching arrangements and group-specific support measures, proficiency in bilingual teaching, experience in co-teaching and school community development, skills in using digital applications and learning environments, and experience in a comprehensive school setting. Salary is determined according to the municipal collective agreement for the education sector. The selected candidate must present a criminal record extract as required by law (504/2002). The probation period is half of the employment duration. Join us in shaping the future! Please submit your application by June 10, 2026, at 3:00 PM via the 'Apply for a job' link.
