The Finnish-language basic education and upper secondary education services of the City of Porvoo are seeking a temporary special class teacher for a fixed-term position from August 1 to December 31, 2026. The placement is at Albert Edelfelt School's special support classes. Porvoo is a growing and multicultural city. Our schools' activities are based on collaboration, joy of learning and working, and high-quality pedagogy. Modernized and renovated schools support both learning and teaching, emphasizing community, participation, and cultural diversity—values visible in daily work for both learners and staff. Albert Edelfelt School is a comprehensive school with approximately 630 students in grades 1-9. It is located in a 16-year-old building in the Näsin area downtown. The building has been renovated in the past two years and offers excellent facilities for studying and recreation. Community and safety are fundamental to our school: students are provided with a familiar and secure nine-year learning path under one roof. We value children and young people, believing that quality education is built on everyday interactions. Over 90 staff members work daily at Albert Edelfelt School. The school has a good team spirit: daily activities are characterized by shared effort and humor. Unique features include Swedish-language immersion education for grades 1-9 and eight special classes, seven of which serve students requiring demanding special support. The school's leadership team consists of the principal, deputy principal, and three assistant principals. The special support classes at Albert Edelfelt School serve grades E-9. Students have varying degrees of developmental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder. Additionally, morning and afternoon activities and holiday programs are offered. Community and safety are core principles: students are provided with a familiar and secure nine-year learning journey under one roof. The special class teacher's role is to plan and implement individualized learning content and goals for students requiring intensive support and to guide assistants in their work. Applicants are encouraged to describe the following criteria in their application. Those invited for an interview will be selected based on applications. Qualifications are determined according to the decree on the qualifications of personnel in education (986/1998). The selected candidate must have a valid special class teacher qualification. Original certificates proving qualification must be presented at the interview. It is advantageous to have: - Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating education for students requiring intensive support - Good cooperation and interaction skills, as well as a solution-oriented approach - Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork and network collaboration Salary is determined according to the municipal collective agreement for education. The appointee must present a criminal record extract as required by law (504/2002) for those working with children. The trial period is half of the employment duration. Join us in shaping the future!
