The Lapland Rescue Department's operational area consists of the northernmost, largest, and most sparsely populated region of Finland. Covering from the sea to the fells and from cities to wilderness, Lapland is nearly one-third of Finland, most of which is north of the Arctic Circle. We are recruiting a Fire Chief for the eastern rescue area, Sodankylä fire station group. The Fire Chief position is a non-commissioned officer role. The Sodankylä fire station group includes the municipalities of Sodankylä and Savukoski. The current work shifts at Sodankylä fire station consist of 2-3 personnel per shift. The rescue helicopter ASLAK operates from Sodankylä fire station. The Lapland Rescue Department aims to increase the shift staffing of station groups to 1+3 personnel. The Fire Chief acts as the supervisor and on-duty fire group leader during their shift within their fire station group area. You are responsible for the station group's affairs during your shift. You lead firefighting operations according to the response plan and work closely with the on-duty fire chief. During your shift, you also perform other tasks related to the station group and daily operations, including shift planning, training planning and implementation, and other tasks agreed upon. Qualifications for the position: - Eligibility defined by Government Decree 407/2011, Section 6 (non-commissioned officer eligibility). - Class B driving license. - Firefit index of at least 3.0 or rescue operations level 1. The role requires good personnel management skills, initiative, and a constructive and positive attitude towards work. We value that you perform your duties wisely and efficiently, without forgetting job enjoyment. Salary and employment terms are based on the HYVTES collective agreement. The position has a 6-month probation period. Working hours follow the current exceptional permit (24-hour shifts, 42 hours per week). The selected candidate must undergo a health examination and drug test conducted by occupational health services. Additionally, the candidate must consent to a security clearance. We follow the vaccination requirements as per the law on communicable diseases. The position is open for applications until 31 July 2026 at 15:00.
