We are now looking for a Doctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary research environment spanning two faculties at the University of Oulu: the Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology (HST) and the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS). The position offers a distinctive opportunity to conduct research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, signal processing, computer vision, and digital health. The objective of the position is to carry out high-quality doctoral research and to complete a doctoral degree during the four-year employment period. The Doctoral Researcher will work on multimodal physiological sensing and AI-based analysis of cardiac dynamics, process ECG and PPG data, camera-based physiological measurements, and radar signals, design data collection protocols, annotate data, manage research data, evaluate associations between multimodal patterns and cardiometabolic health, and publish findings in international journals and conferences. The role involves collaboration across computer science, engineering, health sciences, and medicine, and completing doctoral studies at the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS). The position is part of the Academy Research Fellow project CARDIAB: Towards Cardiometabolic Intelligence—Decoding Heart Dynamics for AI-Augmented Diabetes Monitoring and Human Sustainable Wellbeing. We offer a fully funded, full-time doctoral researcher position for four years with multidisciplinary support, access to AI, computer vision, physiological signal analysis, biomedical engineering, digital health, and health sciences expertise, access to multimodal sensing equipment and facilities, opportunities for international collaboration and visits, wellness benefit (ePassi) covering sport and culture, development and career options, flexible working and Buddy Programme to help settling in. Salary will be based on levels 2–4 of the Finnish university teaching and research staff pay scale, with a possible 50% addition based on personal performance; starting gross salary is approximately 2500–3200 € per month before taxes.
