The Department of Medicine and Health Technology at Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences form Finland’s second-largest multidisciplinary research and teaching community. The faculty’s core competencies are technology, health and society. This recruitment is for a professor of physical medicine (physiatry). The position is part-time (30%) and involves teaching and research work conducted in Tampere. The professorship is for five years. The role comprises internationally high-level medical research, supervision of dissertations, publication activity, and teaching based on research in the Licentiate of Medicine degree programme and in specialist medical training. The professor is expected to continue and develop their own research, secure external funding, actively participate in national and international collaboration networks to support field advancement, and engage in societal impact and collaboration between the faculty and the Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services County. The appointment also includes a side post under the Social Welfare and Health Care Act (Section 34b) with Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services. Eligibility requirements include a suitable doctoral degree, specialist rights in physical medicine, high international scientific merit, experience in leading scientific research, ability to teach research-based content, and evidence of successful securing of research funding. It is typically expected that the professor holds a docent title and a recognized status in the field, plus experience in teaching design and development. The successful candidate is expected to bring substantial added value to the faculty’s research, education, and societal impact, and to contribute to cooperation with Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services. Practical expertise in the field with professional qualifications (e.g. rehabilitation or pain medicine) is valued. Good collaboration and interpersonal skills are appreciated. Teaching in Finnish or Swedish is required, and fluency in Finnish and English is expected.
