Observability Tech Lead

The effects of your work reach widely into Finns’ daily lives. We are looking for a Tech Lead for the Ops Capabilities team in SOK’s technology organisation to act as a top expert in observability! In the Tech Lead role, you act as a link between business and technology as part of a team that identifies hidden disruptions in processes and helps resolve them before they cause problems. Our workplace is our Helsinki office, Ässäkeskus, where we meet colleagues several times a week. When work tasks permit, you can also work remotely flexibly for part of the week. What is the role about? Your task in this role is to ensure that timely information about S Group’s business processes and technical services is available to support decision-making, quality and reliability. You identify hidden faults and bottlenecks in processes and design solutions that improve the observability and reliability of business-critical events and services. As Tech Lead, you have a key role between business and technology. You are responsible for translating business needs into technical requirements, assessing architectural solutions and promoting the adoption of monitoring and observability capabilities across S Group. You also participate in planning service and system roadmaps and bring together stakeholder needs and development-team solutions. In your everyday work, you facilitate workshops and cross-functional collaboration and work closely with business representatives, architects, developers and other technology specialists. You also make the team’s expertise visible through demos and community events. You participate in service maintenance and, in turn, take the team’s operational responsibility role according to agreed practices and instructions. You will join the Ops Capabilities team, which develops and maintains S Group’s monitoring, observability and supervision capabilities. The team aims to help the business better understand the state of services and processes and support their continuous development. You will not be stepping into the unknown. You will join an experienced team where another specialist already performs a similar role. We have built business-process monitoring with modern tools, making use of machine learning and artificial intelligence. You will join a development phase in which a strong foundation has already been created and the next steps await their owner. On the technology side, we work with AWS, Python, Terraform, Kafka and various log-management and observability solutions, among other technologies. Version-control and deployment-pipeline tools and AI assistants are part of our daily work. The role also gives you the opportunity to contribute to hands-on implementation and develop solutions yourself. What kind of professional are we looking for? We are looking for an experienced software development professional with a strong hands-on background in designing and implementing technical solutions. Typically, you have around 10 years of experience in software development and demanding technology projects. You can combine business objectives with technology opportunities and make solution and architecture choices that support the business’s long-term objectives. You enjoy working with different stakeholders and can turn the needs of customers, users and the business into practical technical solutions. You understand both the big picture and the details and can assess solutions from different perspectives without forgetting information security and privacy. You communicate fluently in Finnish and English. We particularly value: - Facilitation skills, as the role involves leading workshops and bringing different stakeholders together to find shared solutions. - The ability to assess solutions from both technical and business perspectives and understand their effects on the whole. - Influential communication, so you can advance observability and monitoring capabilities across a large organisation. - A developmental and collaborative approach, as the work is most successful together with specialists from different areas.
